General Information
Sweet-scented geranium has been cultivated since the mid-19th century. Geranium essential oil is produced through steam distillation of the flowers, leaves and stalks. In folk medicine, geranium oil has been used as a pain reliever, sedative, antimicrobial, antifungal and to relieve spasms. Geranium has also been used to help with nervous tension and symptoms of menopause
Other folk uses include treatment of wounds, fever reduction, hemorrhoids, gonorrhea, inflammation and diarrhea. It has also been used as an insect repellent
Applications
Scented geranium is best known for its relaxing properties. A cup of tea made with the herb will help to relax the nervous system and soothe the digestive system. It is excellent for treating headaches, stiff and sore muscles, spasms and cramps and relieving feelings of helplessness
