General Information
Wild Almond or Amygdalus scoparia is an attractive, umbrella-shaped, spreading deciduous tree which is often harvested from the wild, providing a popular food, as well as medicines and a range of materials for local use. The tree is native to Iran and other countries of Asia
The oil of its kernels is traditionally used for Hyperlipidemia. Compared to olive oil, it has higher proportion of unsaturated to saturated fatty acids besides exhibiting higher index of oxidative stability. The lipid-lowering effects of this oil however, has not been investigated yet
The resin, or commonly gum of this plant is also very useful and beneficial in food and other industries
Persian gum or Zedo gum is an exudate polysaccharide from the trunk and branches of wild almond tree which has recently attracted the attention of many researchers owing to its unique properties and the diverse possible applications it may find in the food industry. This gum is one of the natural Hydrocolloids, which has been introduced and studied on by researchers during the past few years
Properties
In some articles, Zedo gum has been referred as Arabic gum. Yet, both are the same and have similar properties
Persian gum, like other gums, makes viscous solutions when dissolved in water. This gum has medicinal and industrial uses. for example, it is used as an ointment for swollen joints. This gum is anti-parasitic and has anti-cough effects. Some people use it as a painkiller against toothache. In traditional medicine for hair and skin glaze, Zedo gum had been used

As a cough reliever you can grind five grams of it and drink it with cold water. This is useful for relieving chronic cough
As a skin brightener, dissolve the gum in boiling water and then apply it to the skin
To eliminate the itching and inflammation of your eyelids, you can rub it gently into your skin
